The History of Sion College

A Reception and Lecture prepared by George Bush

As we look ahead to 2030, the 400th anniversary of the foundation of Sion College, this seminar reception offers an opportunity to reflect on the College's remarkable history and its enduring contribution to the intellectual, spiritual and collegial life of the Church of England. Founded in 1630 to promote learning and fellowship among the clergy of London, Sion College has adapted and flourished through periods of profound change while remaining faithful to its founding vision.

Held at St Giles Cripplegate, close to the site of the original College, the lecture will explore Sion's origins, development and continuing significance as it approaches this major anniversary. Researched and prepared by George Bush before his untimely death on Saturday 26th September, it reflects the dedication of a long-standing Fellow and Past President who devoted much time and energy to the life of our College. The evening will therefore offer an opportunity not only to celebrate Sion's history, but also to give thanks for George's life and to raise a glass in his memory.

If you have not yet registered for online payment you will be asked to do this and your registration will need to be validated by the Administrator before you can use the facility. You will only need to register once, and for any applications for subsequent events you will need only to log in. Payment is taken by PayPal, but you do not need a PayPal account.

• Successful applicants will be sent further information by Wednesday 6th January, 2027
• Cancellations after Tuesday 12th January will not be refunded
• Attendees will be expected to honour any food choices submitted in advance
• It is Sion College policy that no events are recorded

Sion College events are often over-subscribed and each place is generously subsidised. If you are offered a place but are unable to attend for any reason, please let the office know so that your place may be offered to another. In the event of failure to attend without notice after being reserved a place, the Court will require a refund of the subsidy. Application for a place at any Sion event constitutes acceptance of this proviso.
