Grant applications for new projects

The College supports the personal and ministerial development of London clergy, making grants to clergy who are Fellows or Members of the College and who reside within the boundaries of the M25.

While the College’s policy is regularly reviewed, we are particularly interested in innovative projects that do not easily fit the criteria of other grant-making bodies. We are pleased to contribute to the cost of study leave or further study. Applicants for Sion College grants must be Fellows or Members of the College, and have been a Fellow or Member for at least a year before the course of study or time of study leave begins.

Members of the Grants Committee welcome the opportunity to meet those particularly considering sabbatical or study leave projects at an early stage so that we are able to give assistance in planning and in identifying financial resources. Please note that these meetings generally take place in the College office, which is on the second floor with no lift. If you have any difficulty with this, please let us know.

With effect from 2012: - grants will no longer be available for formal post-graduate academic study (offers which have already been made will continue to be honoured, but no new applications will be accepted); and - grants towards stays at Gladstone’s Library or the Society of Mary and Martha will only be available to applicants once in any two-year period (however, clergy who took up this offer in 2011 will be able to apply again in 2012).

Take a look at the Achievements and Papers pages for some examples of how Sion College grants have been used.

If you believe you are eligible you should complete and return the grant application form and provide a separate outline of your proposal giving, if possible, an estimate of costs. In some circumstances, for example with study leave and sabbatical proposals, we will arrange for two members of the Grants Committee to meet you to discuss the proposal. Applications are considered by the Grants Committee at its quarterly meetings in January, April, July and October. It is a requirement of our process that they are submitted to the College Office by the last day of the preceding month. Applications which fail to meet these deadlines will not be considered. Please note also that grants are not made for courses or work already in progress.
